LIGHTHOUSE III
WEST QUODDY HEAD LIGHT, BAY OF
FUNDY, MAINE
Order No. 044
HISTORY: This light station was established in 1808
when Thomas Jefferson was still president and is one of Maine’s
oldest lighthouses. It was first lit in 1858 after being rebuilt
with brick. Its conical shaped tower has red and white bands to
be better seen through the harsh winter weather along the Maine
coast. It sits atop a 40’ cliff on the easternmost point in the
United States. It still has its original third-order Fresnel lens.
Its tower stands 83’ tall. The keeper’s quarters were also constructed
in 1858 in a Victorian style and renovated in 2001-02 as a visitor
center and museum.
This light is still an active aid to navigation in the State Park
which is maintained by the Maine Division of Natural Resources.
The U. S. Coast Guard maintains the lens. West Quoddy Head Light
is one of the best known of all U.S. lighthouses and a familiar
symbol of the Maine coast.
STITCHING INFORMATION: Stitch count: 191 wide
x 114 high. Our model was stitched on a 16" x 12"
piece of 18-count white AIDA fabric. To use a different type of
fabric or different AIDS sized fabric, give the stitch count to
your fabric store and they will help you select the correct amount
of fabric to complete this design. Our threads were carefully chosen
to depict the actual colors of the lighthouse to give it the most
realistic appearance possible
