HECETA HEAD LIGHT, OREGON
Order No. 182
One of the most beautiful lighthouses in the world, and one of
the most
photographed. Built in 1894, is it listed on the National Register
of
Historic Places. It is a working lighthouse and is open to the public.
Its
first order Fresnel lens casts its beam some 21 miles out to sea.
There is
a path from the Keeper's house all the way down to the beach. The
Keeper's
2-story Queen Anne style house is also a Bed and Breakfast! The
lighthouse
gets its name from Captain Don Bruno de Heceta of the Spanish Royal
Navy who
explored the Oregon coast around 1775.
